River Plate Begins Preseason in San Martín de los Andes

Argentine club River Plate is traveling to the Neuquén city of San Martín de los Andes to begin the physical part of its preseason training. According to the Argentine News Agency, the team led by Marcelo Gallardo will arrive at Aviador Carlos Campos airport around 21:00 tonight, while the transfer to Loi Suites Chapelco hotel is scheduled for 22:00, where they are expected to be received by a large number of fans who have organized a welcome event there. In the afternoon, the Núñez team will hold its last training session at the River Camp in the Buenos Aires municipality of Ezeiza, and around 19:00, it will begin its journey to Neuquén. This will be the fourth preseason that the Gallardo-led team has held in San Martín de los Andes, having previously been there in 2020, 2022, and 2024. Unlike in previous years, this stay in Neuquén soil will be shorter, as on Saturday, January 10, they will travel to Uruguay, specifically to the city of Maldonado, to dispute the Río de la Plata Series, where they will face Millonarios of Colombia on Sunday, January 11, at 21:00, at the Domingo Burgueño Miguel stadium. In the same venue, they will play against Peñarol of Montevideo on Saturday, January 17, at 22:00. For the 2026 season, which will begin at the end of January with its visit to Barracas Central for the first date of Group B of the Apertura Tournament, Gallardo already has two reinforcements who arrived a few days ago: midfielders Aníbal Moreno and Fausto Vera, both coming from Brazilian football. Moreno arrived at River from Palmeiras for 7 million dollars and signed a contract until December 2029. The 'Millonario' bought the total card of the midfielder who in Argentina played for Newell's Old Boys of Rosario and Racing. In turn, Fausto Vera arrives at River on loan for one year from Atlético Mineiro, for a fee of 500 thousand dollars and with a purchase option of 4 million dollars.
